Square Circle Circus, Jay Leslie's House Of Enchntment

| Above are three examples of square circles made over 60 years ago. These are the inspiration for our new Circus model. The first drawing is from Kanter's Catalog #8 cataloge circa 1947. It's called the #1070 De Luxe Square Circle. The second two drawings are from a Mazda cataloge supplied to me by J.P. Jackson. Our new Circus model mostly reflects elements of the Kanters but the other drawings were included so you could see how extending the face of a prop for decorative purposes has been around for decades. What we did was use a computer to overlap the circles on the front. It gives the illusion an entirely new look.
A square circle any performer would be proud of. A real collectors piece that's very collectable too. Only the finest materials are used. Each one both CNC machine and hand crafted. These are not "off the shelve items" each one must be made by hand. |

| I am amazed everytime the phone rings. Imagine how impressive a computer is. Make that computer design, then manufacture props like this and I could die. The computerized tool we bought does a magnificent job. Look at the quality. After the parts are cut, assembly occurs in short order. The real craftshipmanship only starts now. I personally seal and sand & seal and sand all the edges in and out. One coat of sealer and two to three coats of intermetiate layers are applied before the color is added. The colors are hand mixed, a lost art. Each color is applied individually allowing two days between, so masking tape can be applied for the next process. The vynal designs are hand applied.Two top coats of clear are applied to bring out the beauty of the entire box. When I make metal tubes they are heaver metal, not thin tin plate. The metal is spot welded, cleaned with special solvents, then a protective coat of sealer applied. Most manufacturers skip this step and just spray their tubes with the top coat. We then apply a top coat. After this, tape is artistically applied then yellow stripes are painted on the tube. The tape is removed. So far, each tube is different. We haven't settled on any perticular design. Yours will probably be a little different then the pictures. We perfer to hand apply tape as opposed to using stencils because you get crisper lines. A clear coat is applied to the tube. The inside is painted with enamel because enemel is tougher. The base is built from wood or plastic. It is sprayed with black enamel if made from wood, then in a seperate step, the top covered with black flock. The gimmick is painted then covered with, hand applied, black flock inside and out. The inside of the square is also covered with black flock. It would take you 35 hours to duplicate all these processes, not including paint drying time. And there you have it. As you can see, with all the work involved this is a special order item. It takes at least two weeks to make because of all the drying time. | |||||||||||||
